Most people associate air conditioning with cooling however nearly all modern day air con systems have the ability to provide a highly efficient means of heating when required. These systems are most commonly known as heat pumps.
With ever increasing inverter and heat pump technology your standard air con system has energy ratings of A's & B's and with government grants and the Enhanced Capital Allowance Scheme many people are looking at their air con as an efficient way to also heat their premises.

R22 - the facts
What is R22?
- > R22 is the refrigerant gas found in the majority of air conditioning equipment over 10 years old
- > R22 is a hydrochloroflourocarbon (HCFC) which can potentially cause ozone depletion if leaked into the atmosphere
- > In 2003 R22 was banned from use in newly manufactured air conditioning systems
How does this affect you?
From 1st January 2015 it will be illegal to use R22 to service AC equipment and recycled or reclaimed HCFC may no longer be used.
This means that it is permissible to continue using equipment that contains HCFCs beyond the phase-out dates, but there must be no maintenance or servicing undertaken on the equipment that involves breaking into the refrigerant circuits.
An estimated 750,000 units which run on R22 are still in use today.
If you have an air conditioning system which relies on R22 and it fails, it is essential that you have a plan in place to have it removed and renewed.

Cool-Rite Trainee wins Apprentice of the Year
Cool-Rite’s trainee Richard Iles has been awarded the South West’s Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Apprentice of the year award.
He was presented with the award by the president of the HVCA at a ceremony held in Bristol.
Cool-Rite employed Richard approximately 3 years ago with him having no knowledge of the refrigeration and air conditioning industry but with a huge hunger to learn a trade. Having shown promise in the early stages of his employment we enrolled him into Bath College with the assistance of training provider BEST and supported him throughout his training. This award acknowledges Richard ‘s hard work and show Cool-Rite’s commitment in training young people into skilled engineers.
